EDITING

WHAT I CAN OFFER YOU

If you're a writer of creative nonfiction looking for advice or editing help with an essay, book-length manuscript, or collection of pieces, I invite you to contact me so we can consider working together. The editing services I offer vary, depending on your needs.

  • Developmental editing — I can work with you on issues of content, style, and organization to strengthen your voice and the development of your ideas.

  • Copyediting — As you near completion of your essay or manuscript, I can carefully review your work to ensure that your style is consistent and your use of language is correct.

  • Substantive editing — If your writing needs significant revision, I can do more substantive copyediting and suggest rewrites of the text as needed for clarity and tone.

MY EXPERIENCE & BACKGROUND

The books featured here offer a few examples of my editing work:

  • From the Island's Edge: A Sitka Reader celebrates the first ten years of the Island Institute's Sitka Symposium, and features work by nationally recognized writers as well as new voices. It received a Critics Choice Award.

  • The Book of the Tongass (co-edited with Don Snow) collects commissioned essays about the world's largest remaining temperate rainforest.

  • Arctic Refuge: A Circle of Testimony (co-edited with Hank Lentfer) brings together voices from around the country in defense of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and its preservation.

  • Connotations: The Island Institute Journal—which I created, edited, and designed—featured poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction by participants in Island Institute programs. It was published twice annually from 1993 to 2014.
